Everton have appointed Scott Phelan as their new permanent head coach. Phelan took interim charge of Everton in early February following former boss Brian Sørensen's sacking.

What happened?

Phelan won four of his eight league games in charge, guiding Everton to an eighth-place finish in the Barclays Women's Super League table.

The 38-year-old clearly impressed the Everton hierarchy and he has now been handed the job on a permanent basis.

Why it matters for Everton

After being appointed Everton head coach on a permanent basis, Phelan said “I am unbelievably proud to be given this role. My time at Everton has spanned a long time and to have the opportunity to lead our Women’s team as head coach is something I do not take for granted.

What comes next?

Phil Jevons will support Phelan in his role while further backroom staff appointments will be made in due course.
