Ipswich's task became harder when Abdul Fatawu was sent off in the 67th minute for simulation, receiving a second yellow card. Manager Gary O'Neil later said the decision was not blatant and that there had been some contact, but he acknowledged the young player needed to be wiser in such situations.
Despite playing with ten men, Ipswich applied pressure late on. O'Neil praised his team's response, saying they put Everton under pressure and created several chances after switching to a more attacking shape.
Everton manager Sean Dyche will be pleased with a second consecutive clean sheet, a solid foundation as his team prepares for its next challenge. The win extends Everton's unbeaten start to the season to five matches, with a form line of two wins and three draws.
They now look ahead to an away fixture against Hull City on October 11th. Hull currently sit one place below Everton in eighth, setting up a key early-season clash between two sides in the top half.
