Everton goalkeeper Tom King holds the official world record for the longest goal ever scored in football history. His remarkable 96.01-metre strike for Newport County in 2021 has earned him a place in the Guinness World Records 2027 book.

The record-breaking moment came during a League Two match against Cheltenham Town, played behind closed doors due to COVID-19 restrictions. King, who joined Everton in 2024, has spoken about a family tradition where his grandmother gifts him the Guinness Book of Records each year, making his inclusion a personal milestone.

Begovic's own record

Asmir Begovic, who had two spells at Everton, previously held the record with a 91.9-metre goal for Stoke City. The former Toffees keeper also still holds the record for the quickest goal scored by a goalkeeper, netting after just 13 seconds. Begovic made 10 appearances for Everton across all competitions during his time at Goodison Park.

King's role at Everton

While Jordan Pickford remains the undisputed first choice, Tom King's role within Sean Dyche's squad is valued. The Welsh goalkeeper, who wears the number three shirt, has yet to make a competitive appearance for the first team but is regarded as a popular figure who adds personality to the dressing room. His connection with teammate Jack Grealish is often highlighted in media reports.

Everton's strong start to the season provides a positive backdrop for this personal achievement. The team currently sits seventh in the Premier League standings with nine points from their opening five matches, a return built on a solid defensive foundation. Sean Dyche's side has conceded only four goals in those five games, an average of 0.8 per match, and is currently on a two-game winning run.

Tom King continues to train with the squad, contributing as a reliable third-choice option while possessing a unique piece of footballing history that will be published worldwide next year.
