Everton's £30m Bid for Jonathan Rowe Rejected by Bologna
Everton's £30m bid for Jonathan Rowe has been rejected by Bologna, with the Italian club demanding a higher price for the 23-year-old left-winger.
What Happened?
Bologna have rejected Everton's bid for Jonathan Rowe, with reports suggesting that the Blues have offered £30million for the 23-year-old left-winger. Rowe only joined Bologna last year from Marseille and has been in high demand this summer.
Why It Matters for Everton
Everton are desperate for additions before the Premier League season kicks off in just over two weeks' time, with midfielder Hayden Hackney the only new face that's arrived so far this summer. However, Rowe looks increasingly as though he'll be staying put at Bologna after reportedly deciding that he'd rather stay in Italy than return to England to join Everton.
What Comes Next?
However, there is a way that Everton can at least change Bologna's stance on the deal. Italian news outlet Quotidiano Sportivo reported on Wednesday that Bologna have told Everton that Rowe isn't for sale after rejecting their £30m offer. However, it is understood that the Serie A club could have their arm twisted if the Merseyside club was to up the ante and offer between £47.1m and £51.4m for the ex-Norwich star.
Everton fans in for a treat if 'absolutely electric' Jonathan Rowe fixes one problem. This could be an issue that Everton are facing in general right now. An unprecedented nine Premier League clubs will be playing European football in the 2026-27 season. And despite almost half of the teams playing across the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, Everton won't be one of them.
So if you're a player like Rowe, would you rather sit still at Bologna, who reached the Europa League quarter-finals last season and are a club on the rise in Italy? Or would you join one of the Premier League clubs who is consistently struggling? Or, would you wait around and see if one of the nine English clubs in Europe come in and make an offer for you this summer? Ultimately, it could be a waiting game and if Everton remain at the table come late August, Rowe's mind could change. But right now, this is where Everton are at.
