Everton could seek support from soon-to-be Prime Minister Andy Burnham as new concerns emerge over the club's kit sponsorship deals. The Toffees face potential early termination of their sleeve sponsorship with Stake if the UK government tightens gambling advertising restrictions, according to financial expert Stefan Borson.

What's the concern for Everton?

Everton recently signed a multi-year deal with CMC Markets as their new front-of-shirt sponsor, while Stake moved to the sleeve. However, proposed bans on gambling sponsorships in football could force the club to end their Stake deal prematurely. Borson warns this would create a "big issue" for Everton and other Premier League clubs reliant on such partnerships.

Why Burnham's role matters

Borson suggests Everton may have an advantage with Burnham, a known Everton fan, set to become Prime Minister. "They may well have the ability to get a message across better now than ever before," he told Football Insider. Burnham was previously involved in Everton's Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) discussions, showing his willingness to support the club.

Financial impact on the Premier League

The financial expert believes a complete ban on gambling sponsorships would severely impact clubs. "If you shoo all gambling advertising from football, it's going to lose a lot of money that's not replaceable," Borson said. He expects the Premier League to successfully lobby against a total ban, but acknowledges the potential financial strain.

Everton currently sit 9th in the Premier League with 0 points, having scored 0 goals and conceded 0 in the early 2026-27 season. Their next fixture is an away match against 19th-placed Sunderland on February 20, 2027.
