Everton are weighing up a summer move for Alexander Sorloth after missing out on Erling Haaland a decade ago.

The Toffees, sitting 13th in the Premier League with 49 points from 38 games and recent form of two draws and three losses, need a reliable striker after Beto and Thierno Barry struggled for consistency last season.

What’s the link between Sorloth and Everton’s past mistake?

Former scout Bryan King, who helped bring Haaland to Merseyside in 2016, told Football Insider the club’s potential pursuit of Sorloth carries a bitter twist. Haaland joined Manchester City for a reported £51.7m in 2022 and has since fired them to two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

King said: “Wouldn’t it be funny if Everton went for Sorloth and 10 years ago they could have signed Haaland?” The Norwegian has scored 162 goals in 198 games for City, dominating defenders with his physicality.

Why Sorloth could fit at Goodison Park

Sorloth, 30, is set to leave Atlético Madrid this summer and is valued around £25m. He netted 20 goals across all competitions last season and could address Everton’s striker shortage.

Liam Delap and Taty Castellanos are also in the frame, but both are expected to cost more than the Norwegian. David Moyes has made striker recruitment a priority after Beto managed just four league goals in 2025-26.

How bad is Everton’s striker crisis?

The Toffees shipped 50 goals last season and sit 36 points behind league leaders Arsenal. Their last result was a 1-0 loss to Tottenham on May 24, 2026, extending a winless run of three straight defeats.

Everton host Bolton away on July 25, 2026, in their next fixture as Moyes looks to steady the ship. The club’s striker hunt reflects their broader need for firepower up front.
