Everton are facing a challenge in their pursuit of Chelsea's Tyrique George, as Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a move to hijack the transfer. The Magpies are looking to replace Anthony Gordon in their attack, and George is considered a key target. George spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Everton, but failed to make an impact, making just one start. The 20-year-old is expected to leave Stamford Bridge permanently this summer as he looks to secure regular game time. Everton have a buy-option as part of their loan agreement worth £22m, but the club is looking to lower the price instead of triggering the option. This has opened the door for other clubs to potentially enter the mix, and Newcastle are one of them. Howe is believed to be a big fan of George's explosive pace and direct running ability, and he is now considered to be an option alongside the likes of Abde Ezzalzouli, while Said El Mala has also been considered, with talks opened after he turned down a move to Brentford. George has got incredible pace, great trickery, and has a fantastic eye for goal, having shown his qualities while playing for Chelsea in the Conference League and other cup competitions during the 2024/25 season. A deal won't be too expensive, and it's the perfect type of signing for Howe, so he can mould George into the type of winger he enjoys most, and also replace Gordon in the best way he knows how.
