Everton are being urged to sign Bournemouth midfielder Marcus Tavernier to strengthen their midfield options. Former senior Everton scout Bryan King has described the 27-year-old as an 'interesting' player who could lift the team's midfield, following their fifth permanent signing of the summer.

Who is Marcus Tavernier?

Marcus Tavernier joined Bournemouth in 2022 from Middlesbrough for around £10million. The versatile midfielder has impressed with eight goals and four assists in 35 games last season, showcasing his ability to play in various positions, including midfield and wide roles. His contract runs until 2029, making him a valuable asset.

Why Everton need Tavernier

Everton finished 13th in the Premier League last season with 49 points, scoring 47 goals and conceding 50. Their recent form has been poor, with four consecutive losses. Tavernier's versatility and experience could provide the much-needed boost to their midfield, especially with James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam currently sidelined.

What Bryan King says

Bryan King, a former senior Everton scout, believes Tavernier would be a good signing. He told Football Insider, 'He's a gainer in the 25, 26, 27 age, isn't he? So, you know, you're looking at him, again, good age. He's done well. He can play midfield, he can play wide. You know, he could be an interesting player to bring in with Johnson. He could certainly lift the midfield, couldn't he?'

Bournemouth's stance

Bournemouth are reportedly doing everything they can to keep Tavernier. Former manager Andoni Iraola, now at Liverpool, praised Tavernier's versatility and attitude, stating, 'He has played today in the eight, on the left, on the right, as a 10. I think we've used him as a left back sometimes.'
